Isadora Darling

Isadora Darling came to town
on a beautiful early Spring day.
She captured the notice of all those around
as she merrily skipped on her way.

First to the chapel to say a nice prayer
went Isadora Darling that morn.
She was blessed by the priest, then turned to the east
and proceeded to where she was born.

‘Twas a quaint little cottage down Halifax Lane
with white fence pickets all ‘round.
Her kitty cat, Whiskers, meowed in delight
and to sweet Isadora did bound!

Her Mommy and Pop rushed through the door calling, “Isadora, where have you been?
No one around knew just where you’d gone;
by not one single one were you seen!”

“Last evening a butterfly landed right there,”
sweetly replied Isadora.
“It looked in my eyes, winked and said,
‘Come and let us explore!’ “

“Then it flew round my face and on past the gate
so, of course, I had not but to follow.
As stars twinkled bright we danced through town,
then over there into the hollow.”

“The moon’s glow revealed a magical realm
I’d always suspected was there.
Ten beautiful fairies sang songs in my ear,
braiding wild flowers into my hair!”

“I went fast to sleep having many grand dreams
of all our eyes do not see.
I awoke with the sun, having had such fun,
and sipped honeysuckle wild berry tea.”

“That’s when I noticed how long I’d been gone
and decided to skip back to town.
I knew you’d be pleased when you heard all the news
of such fantastic things I had found!”

Dear Mommy and Pop just looked at each other,
not knowing quite what to think.
From a swing on the porch came grand mama’s wise voice, “If you imagine my dears, it can be!”
