Artist's Description

WE LIVED IN A ONE ROOM HOUSE SOUTH OF THIS AREA….OUR HOUSE WAS HEATED BY OIL,AND WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED THE OIL THICKENED AND THE FIRE WENT OUT. LUCKILY WE HAD GOVERNMENT ISSUE ARCTIC SLEEPING BAGS.,AND BELIEVE ME…THEY WORK.WE ALSO HAD A WOOD BURNING STOVE WHICH FOR SAFETYS SAKE WAS ONLY USED IN THE DAY TIME WHEN WE WERE AWAKE. ,……THAT NIGHT,..THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED….THE OIL STOVE WENT OUT AND THE TEMPERATURE INSIDE THE HOUSE WAS MINUS 39…..IT MAY HAVE BEEN LOWER,,,BUT THATS AS FAR AS THE THERMOMETER WENT. MY DAD SOON HAD THE WOOD BURNING STOVE FIRE UP,BUT IT TOOK SEVERAL DAYS FOR EVERYTHING TO THAW OUT….GROCERYS…WET WINTER CLOTHING…EVERYTHING.OUTSIDE OUR HOUSE IT WAS MINUS 72 DEGREES……LATER WHEN MY GRANDMOTHER IN CALIFORNIA ASKED HOW WE HAD MANAGED,MY MOTHER SAID………………………….WELL,WE HAD TO CANCEL THE PICNIC!!!!!!
