Mamma Whitefoot by Vickie Emms

Canon EOS 60D; 18-200mm lens
Sepia done in Photochop Nik filter

This is my beautiful Mamma Whitefoot who is one of the resident deer that I love to visit at West Hawk Lake, Whiteshell Provincial Park, Manitoba, Canada. She has distinct white markings on all her feet and so do the girls. When I saw her yesterday and called out to her, she immediately stopped walking in the direction she was heading and came to see me at the car. She has three daughters that hang out with her, a yearling and twins from last summer. Of course they all think if Mamma can talk to this lady in the car, we can too and I had all the noses looking in my window for a treat. I had almonds which they loved to munch on.
See you next time beautiful ladies.

She is so beautiful, they had their noses in the car to get almonds. I can guarantee she is there whenever we visit West Hawk, they are so lovely together, all stages of size.

What a wonderful capture, Vickie. She’s certainly one beautiful lady! What a great story, too. It’s lovely when wild animals trust us this much.

  • Complete trust Mike. When I called out “Hi Momma” she turned from her walk and came to the car. I know she is spoiled but she is so gorgeous and to stroke that beautiful face when she comes to greet you in a marvelous thing. The trust by both animal and human is so strong and her little ones know that we are harmless too. I wish it was the same for all deer. Of course being in the park she is protected and knows no better.
