The eastern edge of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada is the site for one of the most poignant monuments in Canada, the Terry Fox Memorial. This memorial offers a breathtaking view overlooking the Sleeping Giant. A 9-foot high bronze rendering of Terry Fox stands on a 45-ton granite base laid on a foundation of local amethyst.

The cross-Canada Marathon of Hope undertaken by this courageous young man ended near Thunder Bay in 1980 when his cancer flared again. Terry Fox continues to be an inspiration for people, young and old as a Terry Fox Run is held in communities across Canada each year in September to raise funds for cancer.

Oh hello! I was out shooting him just this afternoon. Well shooting his statue that is. He was a remarkable young man and his legacy is still doing so much good.

beatcha, I got that in September ’07, lol. I love that monument, I never miss stopping at that centre and what a beautiful wayside it is too. Yes Terry was sort of my hero, I was so interested in his run and so saddened it had to end there. His legacy will go on forver. Is yours in the group? Guess I can go look eh? :-))

Very nice, indeed, Vickie. I have one I’m going to post, some day, that was taken from a bit farther back and earlier in the day. I really like yours too.

  • thanks very much Stan, I love the lights at night, and usually we get there at dark if we leave home that morning, it’s quite a drive.
