Featured in Rural Canada Coast to Coast – June 26, 2009

This Scottish Co-Operative elevator was built in 1938. Howard Roger was the first elevator agent, then Abe Heibert, and later Peter Leger who was the agent when it was closed in 1973. The writing on the elevator says "Scottish Co-Operative Wholesale Society Ltd. Glass. I remember this elevator very well as a young child growing up in this area. My father would take his grain to the elevator and I was able to go along for the ride many times. The elevator was later moved from Glass to a farm one mile west and a mile north to the Vaags’ farm where it is used today. I remember standing in a friend’s kitchen on the day it was moved and thought what a loss it will be to the community not being able to see this old icon on the horizon.
