Top 10 in a challenge in Canon DSLR – December 5, 2010

Featured in Nuts about MUTTS – January 14, 2010

Sly was my best old friend. We rescued him at 6 weeks old from under the house where he was born at his previous owners. He was the last of several siblings to be given away and we wanted a black dog – perfect! He was a Newfoundland/Springer Spanielx and lived to be 13 years. He had the best personality for a large dog and traveled Canada and the US many times with us. Unfortunately, on one trip in 2006 he couldn’t go along and passed away within an hour of my arrival home. This still breaks my heart. Today is July 15, 2009 and would have been your 16th Birthday,,,,,,,,Happy Birthday Babe! I love you!
I’ll love you forever,
I’ll like you for always,
as long as I’m living
my baby you’ll be."

I remember hun…..it was sad and the timing seemed so off, but even in his passing he was being your friend and showing his love for you….I’ll write you a little story about it some day.

They enter our lives and fill us with such joy, happiness and love. One day, all too soon, they leave us. We cry, we grieve, we are bereft. And then one day, we can smile as we look back and say, “Do you remember when……….?”
You loved Sly. Sly loved you. And now you are strong enough to share your memories.

  • thank you so much for that Jesika. (teary-eyed) here. When I lost my first Samoyed many years ago, the vet told me something similar and I always carried that thought with me to this day. It is very true. Sly’s circumstances were a little different and I feel I let him down, I may one day tell you the story. As I go through my photos and come across one of Sly, I collect them and put them in a folder. Then this challenge has come up, about “eyes” in Man’s Best Friend group, and I immediately thought of this one of him, it’s one of my favorites. Another one was when he was an attendant at my daughter’s wedding wearing his lei, but the photographer took the photo and I dare not share it on here. Thank you so very much once again for your heartfelt comment.

Wow, Vickie. THis is a wonderful capture of your old friend, Sly. THere is SO much expression here. Interesting to read more about him to. WHat a super companion and fellow traveller he must have been.

  • thank you so much for that Jane. Yes, he was a very lovable companion, and he knew he was loved, that’s the best part. If only I could tell you the stories of his life, he was amazing.
