The Sun Does Not Set

Featured in Canadiana – September 20, 2009

This is a scene from atop “The Dome” which is a site at the top of a mountain road that winds up to the Dome overlooking Dawson City, Yukon, Canada. Dawson City had to be my very favorite place in the Yukon. This was my first chance to not see the sun set. It was daylight all night long for 23.5 hours at the time we were in Dawson. I wanted to see the “sunset” at 12 midnight, which didn’t happen. We were out till 1:30 that morning enjoying the photography. The longest day (June 21) was just about there since we were in Dawson on June 16, 2009. In the valley you can see the Yukon River which winds it’s way through Dawson City.

Amazing…absolutely amazing!! It’s not just the lighting but it casts a haunting shadow on this penetrating land. I don’t know if it affected you the way it affected me but I felt so many times the solitude just penetrate my very being! That is so well captured in this image!! Awesome work my friend!!

  • Vickie Emms replied

thanks so very much for such a warm comment Blair. I sure did. We spent over an hour on that dome just breathing in the beauty all around us, then went to town for more photos of what I missed earlier in the day. Amazing,,,,,,,,,Dawson City was just amazing!!

I was very lucky Leanna, and to get the nice weather early on the trip. (It turned bad later on). I hope you can make this trip someday, it’s well worth it, but you can’t hurry. I felt rushed to get it all in
