Deemed the oldest steam engine in North America, the old #3, originally built in Scotland in 1882, just returned to the rails on Sunday after a 7 year restoration project to bring it up to standards. I was lucky enough to be going through the small town of Grosse Isle, Manitoba on Sunday and stopped to get some shots. As I passed by the old steamer and it hissed at me, it was a sort of odd feeling to get out of the way. It was parked in this spot for awhile on the Prairie Dog Central Railway nostalgic train ride. I did wait till it took off back to Winnipeg and got the steam coming from it and the genuine coal smoke from its huge smoke stack. The bell on the top there is in ringing position as you can see, what a nice sound it was.

This version is good too !!
7 year restoration, eh?
Takes forever when nobody wants to carry parts anymore !
Vickie Emms replied
yes, that is what they told us. I suppose it is hard to get parts these days for something over a 100 years old! Thanks for visiting Stan

I went on a trip on Prairie Dog with Michael a couple of years ago but I guess they were using a different engine then.
Vickie Emms replied
thanks hon, yes they had a different engine on the other end of this one too. I think the old steamer pulled it to Grosse Isle and the other pushed and vice versa on the way back.

That is absolutely stunning. I have seen so much HDR treatment that is overdone and garish, but this is perfection. I just leaps off the page at you.
