"Pepe-Le Pew"
Well, it goes like this. After driving around for an hour looking for nice animals, I spotted this newly awakened Skunk crawling on the snowbank. It has just awoken from hibernation, maybe a bit early because since it was a warm melting snow day, I think his bed got wet! Call it a practice shot with my new Canon 50D (hey I’m getting ready for Alaska) Photographed at Ste. Rita, Manitoba.

My goodness hon, he is gorgeous. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this beauty so much alive. Superb capture.
Vickie Emms replied
it was like a little show – the snow was melting and he just woke up it looked like, he was sinking with every footstep finding it hard to walk, but he found a chip bag in the ditch and had his head stuck in it for a crumb, that one didn’t turn out well enough to add here. I thought hey, why not photograph it! Glad you like it, thanks much!
Randall Scholten
Something I try to steer our dogs away from! Well captured! Looks like you are doing very well with that 50D, and are ready for Alaska.
Vickie Emms replied
I know all about that Randy! Been there with skunk/dog encounters in my lifetime. My dog was in the car, as was I, using the monopod, lol. I think I can get used to this camera, but it sure is hard.
Veronica Schultz

Oh boy, did you ever get a great capture here!! These guys aren’t really that easy to capture…in any way!! You did excellent…he looks a bit groggy still!! They don’t usually move around with their tail down!
Vickie Emms replied
we think he just woke up, he was quite groggy, and the snow was giving him a hard time to walk on, he sunk with every step he took. All the better for me…....:-))) thanks for your visit Blair
David Friederich
Cool shot, Vickie, and a great chance to use your new camera. How do you like it so far?
Vickie Emms replied
thanks very much David. The camera is growing on me, I think it’s the lens I don’t care for; the Sigma 150-500. Very, very touchy, but then again I’ve never used anything this huge before. Even with OS it still must be very steady. I now must get used to the tripod. The 50D with the lens it came with the 17-85mm is great, I love it.
Leanna Lomanski
It is nice to see a live one, rather than smell a dead one! They’re really quite cute! Nicely captured!

Now I want to add it to Fabulous Prairies, but ….................
