My sister married an Australian when he was living in Los Angeles. They lived in Wellington, New Zealand for a while. They said it was beautiful, but very windy. She toured the Outback in a small plane and played country fiddle in small towns. It was quite an adventure for her. They live in Tennessee now, but my niece has dual citizenship and has visited her father’s family in Australia several times.

When I was teaching, I received a set of amazing travel posters featuring New Zealand’s fiords. I always wanted to go there. As for Australia proper, aside from my sister’s accounts, and what I have seen in films (LOVE Australian cinema—”My Brilliant Career” comes to mind), I know little.

I am quite fond of Aboriginal dream paintings and of the haunting sound of the digereedoo (don’t know how to spell it). Met a guy who had one and asked how he learned to play—he said he lived with some native peoples there. They showed him how to make it, and then told him to go out into the bush and sit with it. A marvelous approach to art, I think.

And then there are the animals! Oh my gosh. For those of us who don’t live in your country, those critters are danged strange. I would say the Eucalyptus trees were distinctive, if I hadn’t grown up in California where they have really taken hold.

OH, well, the Sydney Opera House, of course. Everybody knows that one.

I do not know anything except there seems to be a great supply of great people there. I would like to now what time of day it is when its midnight here eastern standard time. Its 6:25pm now. I would also like to know what season you are in.. I live in a strong 4 season area. Someday I will ask to visit your great country and see if they can handle my honest me. My Father has dreamed of coming to see your land. If I win a great deal of money I shall take him before he passes on. New Zealand is the only other place I want to visit for now. So much culture. I have to exhale .. Great people .. Just send me bubble mail when I need it.. LOL..Chuck Oh and Darren you did well to ask .. Bravo..

    Hi bluerabbit.

    Thanks for your feedback.

Aboriginal artwork is popular here – especially in the corporate sector – and it commands a good price.

Australian movies can be a little quirky, but are always popular when released in Australia. If they make it big in the U.S. it becomes a big deal here – publicity wise.

    Hi Chuck.

Thanks for joining in – appreciate it. When it’s 6.25pm at your place, it’s 10.25am the next day in gorgeous Melbourne. Melbourne is 16 hours ahead of your time.

We are currently in Spring and about to enter Summer – we have opposite seasons to you.

Keep buying those lotto tickets mate. I’m sure if you and your father travel to Australia, you’ll have a great time.

I’ll have to get back with you on this one, but I wanted to put something up that wasn’t 10 months old. One thing I know about OZ is that there are world-class artists of every kind of Art. Back later. . .
