Great shot man. How big was this sucker?

Thanks for your comments, Mark and Pehpsi.
That’s a very flattering comment, Mark. Thank you. It takes a lot of effort to get these shots.
Pehpsi, I’m not sure how big this humpback was. They are all big and they are a terrific sight to see.
Cheers.

This is a corker Darren, these must be hard to get. Do you have any idea where the whale will come up? Is there a spotter on an upper deck? Got to get myself out to see this one day.

Thanks, Sharon and Ray for your comments.
Ray, the Captain of the vessel took us to the general area where this whale was in the bay. I had a rough idea where the whale was situated, but there’s no prior indication as to when the whale is going to breach. It’s a case of being in the right position on the boat, being fully alert and concentrating on the job at hand.
It’s a great experience to witness these mammals up close, and I’ve been fortunate to have done it twice in 2005 and three times in 2006.

Incredible shot, Darren! You must have had a lot of patience. I’ve been frustrated more than once on whale-watching adventures. Timing is everything. Great job!

Fantastic image. Getting such a good shot of a breaching whale is very difficult and I applaud your skill at getting this one. Well done. After living in Hervey Bay for years, I never got a shot this good. :)
