Found this fascinating old boat in the Ilikai Marina, Waikiki, Hawaii this afternoon, but have no idea what it is. Does anyone know?

Sony NEC-5N, 18-55mm zoom.

I’ve been an amateur photographer for as long as I can remember, which at my age is about a couple of weeks! I’ve owned film cameras from Zeiss, Scheider, Leica, Nikon and Olympus, as well as digital cameras from Pentax and Canon, and still have several, if I can ever find them. I currently use a Sony NEX-5N with an 18-55mm zoom lens, and after a year of ownership am still learning all the functions.

Lovely old boat, good find …

  • I was quite taken with it. I must wander round the marina to see what else I can find, something like this that isn’t all plastic and polythene!

Grand old timer – well spotted and taken David ! I have been slow in answering this due to the fact that I have been hunting through my photo files. I couldn’t find what I was looking for but this looks very much like the first type of purpose built, big gamefishing launches from the 1920’s. We have one in the Bay of Islands, NZ – still floating around and used by Zane Grey the American author.

  • There’s still a lot of game fishing here, so your suggestion is quite plausible. We’re going to be staying alongside the marina next winter so I’ll keep an eye on it.
