Cape St. Mary's - The Brown Season by

The good news is that the snow has virtually all gone from southern Nova Scotia, Canada. Hooray! The bad new is that we are now in the brown season! Everything is brown and what isn’t seems to be, by reflection.

Having finally finished our bloody taxes, which is where I’ve been for the last couple of days, I went out for a drive this morning to take a few pictures and was most disappointed at the brown cast that pervades them all. But that’s how it was, so here’s one of Cape St. Mary’s from the grasses of Mavillette Beach. Pity there isn’t a group called ‘Brown’!

I’ve been an amateur photographer for as long as I can remember, which at my age is about a couple of weeks! I’ve owned film cameras from Zeiss, Scheider, Leica, Nikon and Olympus, as well as digital cameras from Pentax and Canon, and still have several, if I can ever find them. I currently use a Sony NEX-5N with an 18-55mm zoom lens, and after a year of ownership am still learning all the functions.

Another fantastic capture David, love the view through the brown grass, Looks a nice place!

  • It’s a gorgeous beach, Roy, but not very heavily used at any time of year. Lucky for us! If you do a search on ‘Mavillette’ you’ll find another bunch of pictures of the beach. And there will be more! lol

Like your angle David – amazing that the grass is so brown, does the cold kill it off under the snow ?
  • You know, I’ve been wondering if it was actually that brown or if I have a few too many miles on the chip I was using. I may pop back in the next couple of days and do it all again, this time with a newer chip.
