Artist's Description

This male dik-dik was typically cautious at the approach of humans. He and his mate allowed me just three shots before they scuttled off into the undergrowth. These tiny antelopes are amazing creatures as well as being beautiful. They mate for life – which can be up to ten years; they stand 12-16 inches tall, they are 20-28 inches in length and weigh 3-6 kg.
This shot was taken in the Buffalo Springs section of Samburu Game Park in northern Kenya on 13 April 2012
Canon 1DMkII with a Canon 300mm f2.8 IS lens with Canon 1.4 extender;
ISO 200 420mm 1/1250 f6.3
Shot cropped and tweaks in Lightroom
Best viewed large!
