May is poppy time in Tuscany: everywhere you go in the countryside there are fields of them looking fabulous. For these, I didn’t have to go far – just over the wall of our terrace into the field below the house. This shot is straight from the camera, taken this morning, 22 May 2009 looking into the morning sun. It’s very similar to Poppies 2; I just got a bit closer. I can’t decide which I prefer.

Canon 1DMkII with Canon 70-200mm f4L IS lens at 70mm and Canon EF25 tube; ISO200 f10 1/320

Best viewed large.

Living for partly in Italy, partly in Phuket and partly in other locations around the world – Hong Kong & Kenya when I can – I spend a lot of time photographing anything and everything. I particularly enjoy the challenge of capturing shots of wildlife large and small – from elephants to insects. A wider selection of my work can be seen on my website at www.dgcphoto.com.

it’s beautiful also, I would just do just a bit less on crop without cropping the gorgeous texture and light on the top of the flower.

  • Thanks for the feedback, Luda. The composition was in the camera, no cropping after. Unfortunately, I can’t take more of that bunch – I just went outside to check and they’re gone! – it looks as if something large like one of the wild boar we get around here has wandered by! However, there are plenty of others around, I just need that wonderful light.

oh, David, I just decided that this is crop #2, and you prior comment sounds like you asking which one is the best. Sorry that they all gone, they are my favors, but they do not stay for long. They all gorgeous. Will wait for new ones from you.
    Luda.

  • I can see why you thought that, Luda, the angle is almost identical. I was just going for a greater macro shot on this one. I’ll look for some more!!

David. I have just looked at all your poppies and I must say that I do not have a favorite. I think all of them have something special. I like them all very much. The light shining through them especially appeals to me. I could see a set of them making a stunning group of cards. or perhaps a few more and you will have a calendar. No matter what…They are all beautiful.
    Ciao, liz

  • Liz, thank you so much for your wonderful comments. I’m delighted that you liked these shots:) A calendar is a good idea – I have a few more shots I didn’t post and some of some California poppies I’ve yet to sort out.
Thanks again Liz, you’re very kind.
    Un abbraccio, David
