At 601 metres, the Slieve League cliffs on the coast of Donegal on the west coast of Ireland are among the highest sea cliffs in Europe – the locals will tell you that they are the highest but Wikipedia begs to differ and who am I to argue?! What is unarguable is that they are truly magnificent and mercifully they haven’t yet been plagued by the EU bureaucrats who seem to want to put safety netting, walls, handrails etc around everything remotely precipitous. There is one wooden viewing platform for those who don’t wish to go much further than the car park (reached by quite a hairy road), but after that, it’s just you and nature. The adventurous come for the day to explore. There are stunning views all round that of course change the further afield you go. Slieve League was one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland last summer, and not just because the day we went there was one of the very few when it didn’t rain!
