This gnarled tree has somehow come to lean across a creek extending well over the opposite bank. In this early spring photograph, the tree has a fine green haze of its leaves just starting to leaf out. The water of the creek reflects the tree and blue sky like a mirror. The field in the backgroun has not yet been worked for spring planting. I like the image because it seems to tell me that, even when life is hard and rugged, I should continue to reach for my goals. This tree can be seen along a gravel road south of Sumner, Iowa.

I live in northeast Iowa on an acreage. I grew up on a farm, and learned to love nature a great deal. I have worked as a veterinarian and currently work for a landscaper. The many experiences I have had in life have given me a “wide eye” when I look at the world around me.
