Squirrel in a Tree at Sweet Marsh by

I was hiding in some trees at a pond’s edge at Sweet Marsh Wildlife Area near Tripoli, Iowa in April trying to get photographs of American White Pelicans. I heard a noise to my right and slowly turned my head to see what great, hungry, powerful beast was attacking me. I was surprised to see a lively squirrel jumping around from limb to limb not more than fifteen feet from me. He perced on this broken branch when he saw me looking at him and tried to figure out what kind of great, hungry, powerful beast I was.

I live in northeast Iowa on an acreage. I grew up on a farm, and learned to love nature a great deal. I have worked as a veterinarian and currently work for a landscaper. The many experiences I have had in life have given me a “wide eye” when I look at the world around me.
