American White Pelicans visit Sweet Marsh Wildlife Area near Tripoli, Iowa in the spring. Usually they can be seen in groups of various sizes. This pelican was making a solo flight heading to an unseen group of pelicans. The black feathers on the wings amazingly can be seen only when the American White Pelicans’ wings are outstretched as when flying. The trees at the marsh were just beginning to leaf out in April when this photograph was taken.
