Memorial Day

Planets warned
A distant traveler
Not to come
Too near—
Risk being drawn in,
Burned up;
The nature
Of atmosphere;

Even those
Tilling our soils,
Fishing our seas,
All of those
We aim to please
Know at times
Of Nature-wraths,
Tears on trails
Where broken paths;

Yet some
Have made it down,
Now buried deep
In hallowed ground;
Seeing in bright
Destiny
A chance
To lift men
Predetermined to be free;
As miracle
Streak across the sky
Lofty spark
To capture eye;
Strengthen the heart
Of one about
To die;
Calling others
With battle cry
To do war’s
Horrible deed—
Though you fall
He is raised
And with God
Will speed;

So little shooter—
Light weapon drawn—
If passing too near
Linger in sky—
While we thirst—
And then follow
As we do Christ;
Unselfishly give
Pay ultimate
Price,
For others
To freely
Live.

    you’re of beautiful soul Joe, and you know, if there wasn’t some bad in the world we would’nt see the great goodness so clearly.
    ’Lofty spark to capture eye;
    Strengthen the heart
    Of one
    About to die
    - lovely words and a great phiosophy Joe because many
    feel life to be better after death, true, but, we should be of the mindset
    to make the most of life here while we have it – use it purposefully and
    significantly. And nurture our children well towards their futures.

  • Thank you, Del. I appreciate your very wise observations about life and our experience xxx
