Six questions posed to the anonymous creators of ‘Hip Hop Himmler’ wear, coming soon to Red Bubble in the ‘’Rights’ without Responsibility’ Section.
1. What do you feel you express by styling Heinrich Himmler, Adolph Hitler’s Gestapo and SS chief, as a Hip Hop Artist?
We’re trying to show the world that Heinrich was a real person too! Just like me and you. Sure he hated jews and gypsies, gays and commies, and members of every other race and religion on earth, the handicapped, disabled and ‘imperfect’, and basically anyone who wasn’t an Aryan god like himself; and sure he exterminated as many of them as he could as coldly and efficiently as he could BUT we’re trying to show the ‘human’ side of the man, and make him relevant today so that no one makes the mistake of repeating what he did.
So you see, while it may LOOK like we’re admiring the man, we’re actually just exploiting or ‘dissing’ him (to put it in the hip hop vernacular-which we have studied extensively to prepare for this interview), and therefore should be allowed to thoughtlessly step on the hearts and minds of those who still remember or were forever adversely affected by the man and his ‘policies’, in pursuit of our own fortune.
Yeah, that’s it! We’re actually ANTI-Himmler artists. We make our money PRETENDING to glorify him, but we actually are pointing out his ‘flaws’ in a deeply disguised, but intellectually ‘comical’ way.
Yeah, we’re real ‘intellectuals’ in that sense…we’re really ‘deep’-that’s why most people don’t ‘get’ us, as they say in the ghettoes.
2. What similiarities do you see in Hip Hop’s ‘Gangsta’ mentality and Himmler; and who are you ‘making fun’ of, exactly?
Well, we read alot of books, and i mean ALOT! (at least we got them out from the library with the INTENTION of reading them-but they all had SO MANY pages and SO MANY words on each page…it got to be too much, even for us!) And to us, Himmler’s attitude as head of the Ordnungspolizei(Order Police), Kriminalpolizei(Crime Police), and Sicherheitspolizei(Security Police) made him one bad mofo!
And EVERY ‘rapper’ wants to be one of those! So we just dress him up(butt crack and all; ) and make him speak and act like one of them, throw in some obviously nutty Nazi jargon, and before you know it, CHA CHING! We bad.
I mean, let’s face it. With the innercity public education these ‘bros’ have, they wouldn’t know Himmler from Hemingway, so as long as they’re willing to ‘drop their dimes’ on our merchandise, who cares anyway!
Disrespect is disrespect-whether to a Hebe or a Ho’, who cares is right? We’re showing it’s not cool to do either! some may not see it that way, I agree, but it’s our INTENT that matters, and that’s whatever we want you to believe it is based on what you’re accusing us of at the time, right?
3. In your ‘cartoons’ Himmler looks young and hip and thouroughly modern; aren’t you afriad kids might not be able to discern the difference between the persiflage and the hysterical Himmler?
We WANT them to distinguish between the two-just not with our gear.
4. With lines like ’HIMMLER’S HO’S’ and ‘RUAJEW?’ t-s’, are your ‘cartoons’ aimed at a specific audience?
Crazy as it sounds, we’re actually NOT ‘bigots’ or ‘racists’; we’re well educated and we don’t play ‘favorites’, so I guess it’s anyone with the money.
5. What is the contribution of your ‘cartoon’ to the public discourse on say, hate, sex- or racism?
Like we said, whether Hebes or Ho’s, we’re speaking out against discrimination; and with shirts like ‘Welcome to Summer Concentration Camp’ and "Did I Leave the Gas ON Again?’ we believe we are lending a humorous touch to some pretty ‘touchy’ subjects, and opening doors to a dialogue on just how gulible people can be. Especially ‘liberals’.
Yeah, we call them ‘libertards’! It’s really easy to make them feel guilty about ‘infringing’ on someone else’s ‘feelings’ or ‘rights’. Between their ‘political correctness’ and insult-phobia, with a little self-righteous psychobabble you can pretty much get away with anything these days.
We get them everytime; )
6. Since you’re making up your own questions to ‘spin’ this ‘interview’ your way anyway, what else would you like to tell us regarding the somewhat mystifying socially redeeming qualities of your work?
We did alot of research on Heinrich-from his kidnapping children for engineered genetic advantage to inventing the gassing of gypsies, commies and jews to save time and money, and attempted to find some deep universal psychological message in his personality ‘quirks’ as an excuse, but all we could come up with was some mumbo jumbo about shit we made up, and we just wish everyone would stop picking on us for exploiting the starvation, rape, murder, oppression and degradation of others for a meal ticket.
It’s not like we have anything positive to contribute with our work-WE NEVER SAID WE DID!
We’re not the ones who gave us a podium for this retrorepulsivewear-RB is!
We’re not the ones printing and distributing these inflamatory rags-RB is!
We’re not the ones suggesting this is positive, productive, healthy and wholesome, and should be embraced by the community-RB is!
So if you have an issue with our lack of discretion, ‘taste’, respect or responsibility, talk to them, not us! We’re just victims too, after all(sniff).

I love this piece!
The funny thing about Himmler (which I spose everyone knows) is that he had a club foot, and therefore he ‘fit the bill’ to be exterminated, as he was disabled/handicapped.
Hitler is thought to be of Jewish descent (many researchers believe this to be true). So he should have been exterminated. (Apparently his ‘family tree’ had to be re-written a number of times, until it suited Hitler’s distorted self-view.)
The big fat slob was an opium addict, so he should have been exterminated.
Rohm was homosexual, but the reason Hitler had him assassinated was to take control of the Brown Shirts.
Oh indeedy, the racial policies of the Third Reich were ‘just’ perfect!!!!

I agree with jezkemp, but I’d word it more politely. I found the “satire”, such as it was, trite and the reasoning muddy. Blaming RB for HH is like blaming the road for a drunk driver’s actions. However, while adding nothing substantive to the issue, this post and others like it merely fan the flames and further divide what used to be quite a community.

Actually it’s the name calling such as above, which is driving the community apart. I find it ironic why anyone would care to have an open and honest dialogue with someone that speaks like. And actually it’s comments like that, that “fan the flames”.
Also it’s not the protests that are driving this community apart. It’s RB’s choice to market merchandise that most people feel is harmful and ethically wrong.
Damage was done by RB’s choices. People are complaining about the damage/garbage. Don’t blame them for what has happened.

If you stop a moment and think about the competition for the mass-market advertis-apparel crowd your head will explode.
Besides all the legit and il- shirt makers out there with contracts for all the more popular image and text t’s, every Kinkos, copystore, and a number of home printer systems these days allow individuals to make thier own ‘line’ with exactly the ‘personalization’ they want in a uniform.
So what’s a neo-t-shirt marketeer to do?
Community College Marketing 101. Pander to an audience no one else wants.

Make up an ‘explanation’ that posits you on the opposite side of your product, and claim unwarranted ‘censorship’ when called upon to justify it.
The truly clueless will herald your ‘right’ to ‘free speech’ regardless whomever is hurt by your work; and if you can sell enough of it, your distributor (and co-profiteer) will stand by you through all the slings and arrows of misgivings that are sent your way by other members of your community(so long as they are not so ‘profitable’ a partnership as you). That’s better than being ‘right’, that’s….

For those interested in what measures, if any, Redbubbles hosting service, Terramark, are going to take, I will follow this up next week for a response from them.
I’m not about to enter into a slanging match between, or against, other redbubble members, for as far as I’m concerned, both the hitlerhipster gallery issue, AND the issue of AO images appearing on children’s wear, are the result of an inadequate management, namely Martin Hosking, to act decisively and promptly on problems are clearly escalating, both within Redbubble and outslide of it.
Feuds between Redbubble members only detract away from the important issues that need addressing, and redirect the problem onto a community of members, who, irrespective of their beliefs, are unable to bring about resolution either way, but are more likely to inflame it, (and yes, on occasion, my own temper and passion for what I believe is right, have resulted in my personalising things and saying words in haste I shouldn’t have said).
As I see it, there are three issues of serious concern here, many members agree with at least one of them.
1. ‘Artwork’ on Redbubble that some members perceive as being anti-sematic and inflamatory, whilst others perceive it to be harmless ‘Parody’.
2. Explicit images on children’swear of a sexual and/or inappropriate nature, condoning drugs, gangsters and violence. (I think most members are in agreement on this one at least).
3. Redbubble’s delay in remedying the children’s range setting on Redbubble, which in turn is resulting in ALL Adult Only images and messages, appearing on children’s wear WITHOUT the artist’s knowledge, inclusive of artworks that were created for adult T Shirts prior to the children’s range being introduced to redbubble. Many Redbubble artists are totally unaware that this has happened, and are understandably appalled when they discover that their AO work is also being promoted and sold on children’s clothing.
Irrespective of whether people are in agreement with the above issues or not, it is clear that they ARE problematic and potentially issues of a serious concern.
Would it not then be fair that we ALL agree, that ‘something’ decisive needs to be done about one or more of the above issues?
If this is the case, perhaps members could either support one of the above issues, by taking action they deem is appropriate, (not inclusive of attacking each other!), or choose to ignore all of the issues and continue going about their merry way creating art or written work, this is also their ‘Right’, just as protesting one or all of the above issues is the right of others.
I truly believe that if Martin had handled all of the above issues ethically, with sensitivity and urgency, things would never have escalated to the stage they have gotten to now.

I am currently suspended for publishing a range of images, that I believe are highly inappropriate, to be both viewed and sold on children’s clothing. The images I published did NOT link back to the artists and can easily be found with a simple search on Redbubble.
I made it clear in my journal entry that the problem was NOT the fault of the artists, as many artists are unaware that their AO images have been published onto children’s clothing by default.
I also made it clear that my journal entry was to highlight this occurance to Redbubble Members, whom i believe, both ethically AND legally, have the right to know that is how their artwork is being used.
Redbubble disagreed, they considered the journal entry to be ‘baiting’ and inciting an argument.
Nobody argued on the journal entry, however, many members were appalled that their AO artwork was being used in this way.
My suspension is for one week, after which time I am on six months probation.
I will NOT be appealling to Redbubble Management to reinstate my account when the week’s time frame is up.
What was once a safe haven for me, has now become a hostile, unethical environment.
I wish you all well, whatever side of the fence you’re on.
