Ch. 2 – “I’m Ready”
We sat, silently, in his car. Every now and then I would glance at him, bu he wouldn’t return my gaze. Finally I asked, “What’s wrong?” I waited for a response.
He looked at me confused, “What do you mean?” I giggled.
“Like you haven’t noticed?” He stared blankly into my eyes. “The silent?” I looked away quickly. “How come your not talking?” Now he laughed. “What?” I asked with a disgusted tone.
“Actually, I was wondering the same thing.” We stared at each other for a long moment, then he turned back to the road.
I looked out my window. “Oh?” That time I sounded annoyed.
“You see…,” he paused, looking for the right words, “I wasn’t sure if you really liked me, and I was a little nervous,” He hesitated, “I was waiting for you to say something, because I didn’t know what to say!”
“You’re nervous?” I asked curiously. He looked ashamed. “Oh!” This time there was enthusiasm in my words. “That’s great!”
“What?” He was confused.
“I thought I was the only one that thought that, and since you weren’t talking I thought you were mad at me or something.” He chuckled, then we both began to laugh again!
We sat in silence for the rest of the drive. He would look at me, I at him, then we joined hands. He smiled, and we were silent, happy, in love?
Suddenly, he stopped the car. “Where are we?” I asked, more out of shock then curiosity. He gave me a big worm smile.
“We’re at my favorite place in the world,” he paused, I waited. He smiled again, “The beach,” Then he pointed out across the sky, “beautiful isn’t it?” It was the sun set. The most beautiful thing I’d ever seen, pink & orange, simply ravishing.
I gasped. “Oh my god!” I squeaked in excitement and amazement. He smiled at me, then laughed. “It’s so…,” I paused for effect, “beautiful! That’s gorgeous!”
