An Eternal Trip - NNEP Ottawa, ON by

It has been about two weeks since the passing of this beautiful quarterhorse. Due to infirmities of old age, Oscar was euthanized. The title is his registered name and now he is really on his eternal trip of peace. He came to the Equestrian Park at the age of 4, and has remained for next 26 years of his life. Oscar his barn name was originally one of the school horses, later on in life he was retired and owned by a great lady. I was so happy to be able to capture some great shots in last few months of being at the Park.

Thank you for this picture of him, Tracey, and for the story of his life. I wish I could have known him, too. All my life I have loved horses, although I’ve never had the privilege of owning one, so a photo and story like this one is very meaningful to me. Thanks again! ~ Pat

  • Thank you very much Pat, when starting this project I knew that there would be highs and low. It has been so rewarding to be able to capture moments of the school horses

Oh so sorry, hard to lose a friend! He was very beautiful!

  • A very hard decision for any animal owner to have to do. His lip hangs as he has no bottom teeth but he still loves his carrots

He was gorgeous Tracey, sorry for your loss! This is a beauiful image of him!! :O]

  • Thank you Tracy, he is a loss to the Park. Oscar was owned by another lady, but I would always go out his paddock to see him. He always would peek between the railing, and was able to capture a great photo later that I will always remember him by

Such a lovely noble old gentleman(horse) Tracey… I’m sure his owner was thrilled with the photos as mementos…
I too had to put my old horse down 3 years ago…hardest decision of my life. Danny my boy, had no teeth up top! Love how Oscar’s bottom lip hangs, shows his age… My fellow was only 24 so Oscar had a great long life… I’m sure they are both enjoying being Over The Rainbow Bridge, galloping and kicking up their heels like 2 year olds! A tribute and a lovely fave Tracey!

  • Thank you very much Helen! It certainly is hard to part with a dear friend, it is a decision that one does not want to make.
