The Parable of the Blind by Pieter Bruegel the Elder 1568.
This work was based upon Mathew 15:14, ‘And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch", this painting is a terrible image of fatality, not only those who are blind to true religion – symbolized by the church in the background. Bruegel’s observations are apparent in the precision representation of different kinds of blindness which have been identified.

I have placed a bird flying off the hand of the man who has fallen.

Love Bruegel … and this remains as pertinent today as it did in the 16thC

  • Bruegel is one of my favourite artists. I love the series “The seven deadly sins and virtues” that is amazing!
