gorgeous and so so interesting!!
thanks Marion…this piece is from a recent series of paintings that depict the landscape with elements of the ecology removed, to encourage the viewer to consider their absence. Natural features reveal their vulnerability as transparent layers, or are painted white to symbolically remove them from the landscape. The landscape is divided by lines, to represent our tendency to segment and consume the land and many of the paintings themselves are also divided into diptych or triptych formats to further support this concept of division.
this series of paintings is inspired by the area where I have been living and working for the last 12 months, in the rain-forest bordering Mt. Jerusalem National Park in Northern NSW. Living here has made me more aware of our impact on the natural world, as there are still small numbers of several endangered species in this area and yet more subdivision and development is proposed nearby.
Love this…..very beautiful work !
