I got my first SLR in 1967, but had the basic Brownie, etc., long before that. I photograph anything that presents itself and if it doesn’t, I go looking for it. I live about 25 miles south of Tucson, Arizona, in Green Valley, a very active retirement community. I joined the Green Valley Camera Club (membership of about 900) about seven years ago, when I retired. The best thing about the Camera Club, besides the fellowship, is that everyone is willing to share their expertise. I now teach and facilitate activities for the club. I also enjoy creating slideshows of club and personal activities.

I now use a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 (24x zoom which extends to 48x without losing image quality) which I love. It allows me to use burst when shooting in RAW. My first Panasonic superzoom was the DMC-FZ50 (12x zoom) which I still have. I then upgraded to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ 28 (18x zoom) which I have given to a worthy photography student. Next I purchased the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 which I passed along to another worthy photographer. I also purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS15 to carry in my pocket so I’m never without a camera. No more messing around with heavy cameras and lenses any more. With a superzoom, I don’t have to worry about dust getting on the sensor in this desert area.

Thank you!

A big thank you to the person who bought a poster of my “Woman on the Wall” photograph! I am always curious about the people that buy my work—especially this one. You must be a very interesting person. / Linda

The Grunge Effect or Layering with Textures

Several people have asked me how I create the effect I’ve used with my color Tombstone portraits and photos such as Cochise Stronghold and Out Of The West. / First, I did a search for “free grunge textures” and found a couple of very good websites that allow you to copy the textures for free. Where a choice was available, I used the highest resolution available since my photogr…
