Taken either just before midnight on the 22nd of May 2010, or just after midnight on the 23rd…the trouble with film is that there is no EXIF data to check!
This was a tripod shot taken with a Rolleicord V TLR camera dating from around 1955 and fitted with the Schneider-Kreutznach Xenar 80/3.5 lens, shot near the Hobart waterfront at Salamanca Place.
The tripod was set up in the middle of a pedestrian crossing traffic island, which got me some funny looks but came through with the shot!
The exposure details are not recorded, but from memory it was around f/8 or f/11, and the shutter was tripped in bulb mode with a cable release and the exposure timed by eye to get the light trails right.
The film used was Fuji Pro 400H colour negative, processed by Photoforce in Hobart.
Scanned on an Epson V700 and the levels adjusted and dust spots removed in GIMP, photograph has been cropped to improve composition (the square format didn’t really work on this one!).
This is only a small scan on a fairly low resolution, however I do have a much higher res scan of this shot (over 130MB of it!) which I will replace this version with when I apply the same treatment to it.

This film’s not bad actually. Might have to try some. Love the colours. Scans OK too. Nice work.
Cheers,
Brett
Yeah, came up pretty well…
Had to tweak the levels a tad though, the scan straight out of the scanner was really bright, looked washed out. Had to do the same adjustment to all the scans we did on that film…
I think the crop worked pretty well too, thanks for suggesting it!
I love square format, but it wasn’t really working here…

beautiful shot Greg, you two (slideshooter) are keeping the old ways alive, good on you. I have an old Nikon FM in the cupboard, served me well in my film days..used to do lots of B&W and slide developing in the Darkroom, woops Laundry…..lol good ole days (but I don’t miss it for the chemicals)
Thanks!
There is still something about film which digital just doesn’t have…it’s almost indefinable, but it’s there…
Also the pleasure of playing with the old cameras and lovely old lenses…
And it’s cheap to get into.
Slide developing is something I want to get into eventually, along with wet printing…

Lovely night shot of Salamanca Greg. My office is somewhere behind that line of trees. Tony
Sweet spot to work!
Nice place to photograph too, but I’m never going there late on a Saturday night again!

Love this one! The stationary lights in the trees are a great contrast to the movement In the the car lights. If people are giving you odd looks you know it’s going to be an awesome photo!
Very true…although at that point it was a stream of drunken idiots in loud Commodores with huge chrome wheels and cranking stereos hanging out of the window as they drove past and shouting “Take my photo!”…that and the drunk who was convinced it was a speed camera, then became certain that it was a movie camera of some sort…midweek is much better than Sat night!

I really like the perspective in this photo and the way the light follows it :)
Thanks!
This is one of my favourite photos that I have taken. It didn’t work too well in the original square format, but cropped I think it worked ok.
I have since bought the camer I used to take this photo and it has become my favourite camera, to the point where my other cameras are being ignored terribly…
