Hehee, no, I am leaving/coming. It is a popular thing to do. I see it all the time.

Yes, it’s about time you considered doing this, Deri. I’m sure this move will be good for your view count.

Firstly, maybe you could write an entire series of photographic tips over the next three weeks which have already been covered to death on the internet.

When you’ve accomplished this, you’ll have an extremely high opinion of yourself – no question.

Then, one person will comment on one of your photographic tip journal entries which will cause you to lose 3-4 nights sleep.

You will then begin to feel you’re no longer a useful cog in the RedBubble machine. You’ll feel downright unwanted to a point of pulling down all your artwork, BUT increasing your watchlist to over 48 pages so people will add you to their watchlist.

Upon reaching this point, you’ll know it’s time to “Officially” announce your intention to leave in a bitchy journal entry which mentions your cat has received death threats.

When you gain at least 45 replies saying “don’t go”, you’ll be then in a position to say “Thank you everyone – I’ll stay”.

I suspect this method will gain you more notoriety on RedBubble and you’ll then be embraced by those who want you to comment on their work on a very regular basis.

See how that goes, and good luck with your official announcement!

Ahhh. Thanks for the tips Darren. There are so many details to work out. For instance, how many pieces of art do you leave, just before you come back. I have noticed that some don’t take down any art. Is that really the best way to go?

I just had a brilliant thought (or a duh moment, one of the two). Instead of taking my pictures down, I can just make them not public. So they are there, but not there.

Yes – way to go.

Consider this.

Hide 75% of your artwork so you don’t lose your view count. think ahead a little on this one, because when you’ve reached 100,000 views, you’ll be able to announce this in a journal entry. RB newbies will be very impressed with your vital statistic!

I think leaving your art up shows just how upset and distraught you are as you walk out the door. And it’s the best of both worlds … you say you have left, you have obviously abandoned your work, people feel sorry for the work and view it, or even better, they purchase it.

If you take it down, the short attention spans of the majority of internet surfers will not be able to remember you when you return – and so there’s an advantage there too because they’ll think your brand new (even if you don’t change your name) and welcome you with open arms even if you have sprayed red paint all over their own works and slandered their names from here to Timbuktu!!

I truly hope this advice is helpful Deri.

Your view count on both entries will be good for business. You might even sell a small laminated print out of this tactic.

Ahha! Another great tip. And the person that I name of course would also have the option of leaving/not leaving, which would be a great benefit to him/her. I will need at least one volunteer for this whole process. Anyone out there that was thinking of leaving/not leaving in the near future?

Nice work, Deri. I’m sure that piece will be missed by the entire 26,000 RedBubble account holders when you take it down.

I think you would have a better chance of getting into a fight if you don’t name someone. It creates a sense of mystery not knowing who you’re intending to get upset with. That will cause you to receive 50+ bubblemails from members wanting to know who has pissed you off.

better yet you could air your dirty laundry in public – get your partner to join redbubble and start a torrid internet affair then start a bitchfight – going out in a jerry springer type fanfare of publicity!!

I’m sorry if I took a short break. I have been in the process of adding all of RB to my watch list. Hmmmm. I think I only have 22,000 left to go.
I also had another flash (a very brief flash mind you) of genius. If I turn off all my pictures to the public, and then when I “not go” reload all the pictures, people would then be inclined to comment on them as if they are fresh works of art (indeed, most people will have forgotten my art anyway, so they are fresh pieces of art). After I get the requisite number of views/comments, I then turn on the originals and my view numbers sky rocket. I then am able to make one of the famous “I am amazed, I have xxxxxx of views, all in a few hours.” post. Technically I would end up with the record for the most views in a short period of time (that would be another post of course).

Tanya, my cards are flying off the shelves. Everyone should try leaving/not leaving. It has it’s benefits. We could probably make Leaving/not leaving cards and get sales that way as well. From my experience, I recommend people plan ahead and send out leaving/non leaving cards. I am in the process of producing some now.

Deri, I was so happy for you about getting 2 of your great photos into the “Photo of the Year” competiton. But, now after reading this mean spirited, bad tasting, run of comments and inuendo, well, frankly, I think you all have gone too far! I thought “most” bubblers were beyond this kind of juvenile antics. You all have proven me wrong. I am SO upset, I am seriously thinking of cancelling my red bubble account. I would really hate to be associated with this caliber of people. Yes, yes, I will do just that! As of June 1st 2008 I will be dumping all my artwork and closing it down permanently! Thank you all for making me realize that people are just a bunch of uncivilized assholes. It has been an experience.

Deborah, I highly recommend leaving/not leaving, now that I have done it. I was nervous of course, since it was my first time. But I took a deep breath and plunged right in. With help from my fellow bubblers, I feel like I could maybe do it again some day.
