Adelaide Zoo, September 25, 2011. This pelican had its huge beak tucked neatly under its wing, and was watching me without any alarm. It was a very bright day so there’s a bit too much ‘wash out’, but I really liked the detail around its eye.
Canon EOS 400D, Sigma 18-200 mm lens, focal length 179mm, 1/250th, f/7.1, ISO 100.
Absolutely a fantastic capture, and I love that you captured the Pelican in a private moment.
Thank you Ann! It’s interesting at the Adelaide Zoo that the pelicans rest and play very near the fence, and it’s quite doable to catch them in close-up having a little zizz! So glad you like this shot – me too:)

Brilliant close up Denzil.

Thanks Jude – you can get really close to them at the Adelaide Zoo … I was lucky to see this one ‘all tucked up’!

Absolutely gorgeous! … wash-out and all!!!
The feather and eye detail is superb along with the reflected light onto it’s face from it’s wing – devine!
