Even though I was away for 6 weeks, apparently Kitten came most nights for food, but she wouldn’t come close to our house-minder/friend. The first night I was back, I took the apple out, called her, and down she came … and immediately wrapped her tail around my finger when I offered. She didn’t forget me!

Kitten has a baby in the pouch, which should be out and visible in a few weeks.

Straight from the camera.

so pleased she remembers and trusts you……

  • Me too! Although the other night, when I was trying to feel her baby in the pouch, she bit me – but I can’t blame her!!!

  • Isn’t she a treasure??? And tonight, there was another one, I didn’t recognise it, but at least there’s more than just Kitten (I was beeginning to think they didn’t love me any more!)

Beautiful shot. I have 7 with babies in the pouch with the first due in late August. It’s going to be a bit busy and the camera will be running hot when they arrive.

Grand ending to this tale (tail?) ~ am reminded of our little male black squirrel Hedgy who has returned to the fold after many weeks during which he was thoroughly savaged by, we suspect, much bigger males. The last go round left him covered in nasty welts & scars, & with a broken front left wrist. We didn’t think we’d ever see him again, but he’s back & picking up speed! Yesterday he was back in our kitchen, acting much more like his old self. They do take over your life, don’t they!? This is a wonderful shot of this wonderful little face, Denzil.

  • Thanks Sheila!! I’m so happy she remembered me … and what a lovely story about Hedgy:) And yes, they do take over your life … and I’m happy for that!

I REALLY enjoy keeping up with your stories of the possums :) Thanks for sharing – along with such great photographs.

Awesome how she remembered you right away after 6 weeks! Didn’t know they were this intelligent.

  • Many thanks Hassan! I’m not sure they’re very intelligent, so much as motivated by food … but clever enough to differentiate between a new food-giver and the old one they recognise:) (that would be me!!)
