Last Friday (Feb 25 2011), our local treefellers turned up just at our boundary and started to take down a large feral pine tree which had a bad lean across the road.
The guy with the chainsaw spent quite a long time relaxing in the tree while his colleagues cleared up all the branches and twigs, etc., which he had previously dropped. It was all very professional.
Using the bloke’s height of a bit under 2 metres, I figured he was about 15 metres above the ground while he had his rest stop. I was surprised he didn’t light up a ciggie!!
I used this as an opportunity to use my new big lens and I was quite pleased with the result. It is seriously heavy and I needed to brace myself against the fence, but I reckon I’ll get it in the end.
Canon EOS 400D, EF 400mm L lens, 1/1000th, f/5.6, ISO 800, hand-held.

Ya know, I`m glad you mentioned the lens… cause I`d have thought you`d climbed the next tree:-) Great work. Both of ya!
Yes, sorry, I posted the wrong pic first, and you commented really quickly, and then ditched it, and now your original comment’s lost …but never mind, this was the shot I planned to post:)
yeah, lovely shot Denzil, you will find it easier to use with a monopod and quick release plate…and pistol grip head
Thanks Mel! I was quite pleased for my beginner’s shots:) See above re monopod, and as for the other suggestions, I’ll Google them so I know what you mean LOL. No, seriously …
Great shot love this working shot My daughter is in forestry the supervisor she goes up and chops these trees as well It really worries me at times as she is out in BC up in these huge tress using this chain saws but SHE LOVES IT!!!
It’s a scary thought, hanging off a tree with a chainsaw round your waist, isn’t it??? … but I did watch this young man working, for about the hour it took for him to bring the whole tree down, and he was super-professional. He just looks casual – he wasn’t at all. Thanks for the comment:)

Clear and sharp…………great job, do you have a mono pod?
Thansk Ade, yes I do have a monopod, but I bought the cheapskate version ($20 on eBay) and it’s rubbish …no gimbal … so I’ll have to reinvest!!!
