This is the closest I can get to a red-nosed reindeer here in Australia in December! This is Kitten the possum having a munch on her apple tonight (December 16 2010).
Things have changed in the possum kingdom over the last couple of weeks. For months Tippy has been sleeping in the oak tree right outside the back door. After her baby DropKick was banished, Tippy lost her place to this possum, Kitten, who has been sleeping on and off in Tippy’s favourite oak tree roost. But then for the last couple of days, no-one has been sleeping in this spot, and in the daytime I can’t find anyone, in any tree, anywhere.
Also for the last few nights, everyone is skittish – even Mrs FatBum and her baby Fearless won’t come for food. I see them, but they stay in the tree. Kitten has returned to her usual haunt, out in the drive in the other oak tree, where she was brought up by her mother Mrs FatBum. Last night the big koala was bellowing in the nearby trees – perhaps that’s what has spooked everyone???
