DropKick catches her breath by

This is little DropKick, who fell 5 or so metres out of the oak tree yesterday (for the second time in a week), and took a little time to get her wits back. She recovered completely and returned to her perch in the tree.

Taken at Balhannah in the Adelaide Hills.

Fuji FinePix S5500, 1/8, f/2.9, ISO200, 58mm (taken on P mode).

I’m wondering if she’s really got her wits about her at all – surely possums are not meant to fall??! Maybe she needs a trampoline underneath the tree? lol!

  • It’s funny, you’d think that they’re definitely designed NOT to fall – but twice in a week one fell out of (different) trees some years ago; one also fell and got speared on a pointy branch, dead instantly; and now DropKick has fallen out twice – so I’m thinking it’s more common that we think!

I’ve actually been thinking about a net or something – and I’ve got an old dog trampoline bed, so I might put that down there, just in case LOL

Oh, poor little thing..Is she a youngster?…Sounds as though things are not quite right with her…I would be keeping an eye on her in case she needs some care…In the meantime, a safety net sounds ideal. :))…Sweet capture Denzil…!!!

  • Yes, she’s this year’s baby – only been out of the pouch completely for a few weeks. But her mother’s an idiot (walks right up to people when she’s supposed to be wary!), so I don’t hold out much hope for DropKick in the brains department!!

thank you for looking after her!!

  • Well, I’m trying, but she just fell out AGAIN! This time she just bounced straight back up again and ran up the tree, eagerly pursued by the dog! This is becoming ridiculous!!!

Maybe she just wants to stay with you so you can take more beautiful photographs of her….

  • Hah! I would if my camera wasn’t in the dead camera shop!!! My little Fuji was OK for this close-up, but that’s about the extent of its usefulness.
Anyway, DropKick was just on the BBQ having her nightly apple, so even after falling out twice in two days, she’s still OK!!

Dropkick is very cute even if a bit of a clutz ;)

  • She’s an absolute fool really! But, yes, very cute:)

I had some house wrens who built a nest in the twig wreath on my front door and I would
find the bald little babies hanging in the wreath by their legs. There is no way the mother
could have gotten them back so I put pillows on the ground and I replaced them again and again until they grew feathers……….whew.
Sounds like you have the same situation. What a sweet little face here!

  • I’ve got a big roll of Bubblewrap, I think I might out that down for her … it’s raining at the moment so the pillow trick won’t work … but excellent idea for when the sun comes out again!

She is a beauty! Thanks for sharing. :)

  • Thanks! She’s out and about tonight, apparently suffering no ill effects from her repeated falls!!!
