This is for animal-behaviour interest only really – this is Tippy’s baby, showing a very large arm and the end of the tail, outside Tippy’s pouch.
It’s been fascinating watching the babies this season. Because the mothers have no fear of me, I can get really close to the babies, even before they emerge from the pouch.

Amazing Denzil! Thanks for posting this, fascinating!

  • I’m sure that other people have seen babies partly emerged from the pouch and photographed them, but it continues to fascinate me, particularly how BIG they are!!

Ineresting shot. Baby seems to be pretty big. What kind of animal is Tippy?

  • Tippy is an Australian brush-tailed possum, Trichosurus vulpecula, and there is a ,ot of information about them here

And yes, the babies are relatively large, even while still living in the pouch.

Brushies are considered a pest in suburbia, and in fact I only started feeding them near my garage in the (vain) hope that it would keep them away from the trees near my house, so they wouldn’t evacuate on my roof.

It didn’t work, but now I love them, know each one individually by silly names, and miss them horribly when I’m away from home.

Great shot Denzil. It’s amazing the relationship you have with these guys. I’m very impressed, and jealous. LOL.

  • Oh, thnaks so much Al – I am very lucky with these animals – they seemed to take to me right from the outset, adn because I interact with them every night, I guess we’ve built up a pretty good relationship. I’d be jealous too, if I wasn’t me (if you know what I mean LOL)
