A dome in the Suleymaniye mosque in Istanbul, Turkey. A very beautiful, serene place of worship, not as over-run by tourists as the Blue Mosque, where at prayer times the mullahs have to almost drive the tourists out by force. This mosque is away from the main drag, near the university, exquisitely decorated, very welcoming to (respectful) foreigners.
Good comp and pointy of view. Consider a slight levels adjustment to bring forth the shadows details. The camera exposed for the lit area on the dome but the rest is under exposed by 2/3 stop. I love the intricate design and art on the dome. Thanks for sharing with the Art of the Middle East group
Thanks Eyal, I agree with you, but unfortunately at the time I had no control over exposure or anything, having only a point and shoot, and I still have limited capacity to fiddle with photos. I’m glad you still like it though!!!
thanks Denzil, that is why PS is valuable. (or any other image editing software) I downloaded the larger thumbnail and by adjusting levels, contrast, colors, and highlights / shadows, I made a quick change that looks like that…
Wow! The added detail is sensational – it’s a really lovely adjustment. Thank you for showing me what I could do!! I do use Picasa a bit, mainly for sharpening, and I reckon I’ll play with this image myself, and see if I can improve it, as you have done so well. Thanks:)
This is a wonderful photo and brings back happy memories of my time teaching English in Istanbul. It’s my favourite city in the world after Paris and I never tire of it. My daughter is living and working there at the moment as a teacher trainer so we still go there to visit. The Sulemaniye is a fabulous mosque and a great place to be for all spiritual pilgrims whatever their relgion (or not). Brilliant photography!
Rusty, thanks so much for the comment – I loved Istanbul so much, even ‘just’ as a tourist … we were lucky enough to meet an American woman who had lived there for 7 years, had a couple of kids there, taught, worked, etc., and she spoke Turkish, and knew EVERYTHING! She took us to this mosque, which perhaps we might have missed because it was just a little bit away from the main tourist strip. I’m so grateful that I was able to experience it., and to share my photo (although Eyal’s re-work does it more justice!!). Thanks again, I’m so glad you liked it :)
