Cold, wet, hungry - a mother's life!!!!
This morning my dog Sammi, who never lies, told me there was something wildlife-y on the road outside my garden. Sure enough, this large log began moving slowly along the verge, and morphed into a female koala with a baby hanging off her middle. I ran as fast as an Olympic 100 metre champ back to my house, grabbed the camera and flew back to the road. She was already halfway up a gumtree, not the most favourable shot – and it was pouring with rain.
The white flash under her elbow is her baby’s arm…
Sorry about the flash in her eyes – it was early, dark and raining!

Oh Bravo to you Denzil, bet you are still aching from the sprint, but I would have done the same thing…. poor mama koala, how is it she didn’t have a protected shelter from the rain?? Still, she managed to get up the tree with the little one, so let’s hope she will be ok.

Yes, my legs are still sore!!!! I don’t know why she wasn’t sheletred – she was actually on the ground when I first saw her. I saw her again when I got home, and again yesterday morning, but now I can’t see a big fat blob in any tree near me! She looked quite small, so perhaps she’s a young one, having her first baby, and doesn’t quite know what she’s doing. I hope she’s still safe…
