CNY 2006
Something I wrote after going back home to Taiwan to celebrate Chinese New Years in 2006.
An explosion of red welcomes the New,
The firecrackers dance and prance on cue,
A symphony of rockets and mahjong tiles,
A collage of festive, heartfelt smiles.
“Gong xi fat choi!”, the children scream,
Praying and preying red packet dreams.
The circle of life is once more drawn,
Family, dear family, you complete it whole.
The aroma of dumplings, saturate and fog,
An extravagant display to welcome the Dog.
A city, a town of blinding lights,
the cheer and noise, traditions burn bright.
Tigers and Dragons neither crouch nor hide,
Tonight they boogie in strength and pride.
Lanterns in red replace street lights,
The Rabbit smiles down in pure delight.
May our differences and barriers be unlearned,
May unity and peace be our new yearn,
May the kids look forward to a brand new year,
Happy! Festive! Chinese New Year!
