in 1884 the track was extend across lymington river on a 64m long iron viaduct of ten spans. In1992 the viaduct was stabilised with 300 tons of rock.
passengers, step off the the train via the wooden pier, to board the wight link ferry to yarmouth on the isle of wight, which takes 40 minutes to cross the solent.
