FOG
A story inspired by brilliant photographer Charles Winslow’s work, originally titled WET DREAM.
Please check out his other works here
FOG
Air like amniotic fluid holds me now, suspended between one life and another. An ending is always a beginning, a beginning an ending, as the serpent swallows his tail.
Wet grass slips beneath my feet. Early morning fog is thick and colorless like the hair of an old woman, a blind seer, the world silent but for the rhythmic lapping of water on rock, or the scratch of pen on paper as I write write write what the spirits move me to say.
I walk toward the river and look back at the house, rising out of the mist like an icon in a film. It is the nucleus of horror—each locked room, each shadowy alcove bursting with sin. You’d think the walls would explode, but they don’t, they absorb.
And I know this will never change.
I enter the house, green blades clinging to my toes. I walk through the kitchen, through the hall, past the antique, gilt-framed mirror where I pass myself, a spectre in my tattered gown.
He doesn’t see me as I enter the room he fitted as our dungeon, though his eyes are open. He lies on the stone floor, gazing past me, the blood pooled around him dry and brown. I sit beside him and once again I explain to him, now that he has to listen.
Three days have passed since the fog rolled in. Three days since I’ve seen anything clearly as I wander from house to river, from river to house. I’ve seen no one, only distant shapes that might be neighbors, or authorities.
When night falls I lean on the windowsill and stare into the blackness; I wish for courage and a fighting spirit.

A friend told me last night that this story doesn’t really work, does not have good flow. So it will be disappearing today, maybe to be incarnated into some other weirdness at a later date.
deliriousgirl, 4 months ago
Although the photo really rocks.

Do not listen to that friend….......they are wrong. The message reaches beyond and out of that orbit to other people out here. I hope you dont delete. I understand the fog and it is not a state of lucidity so it all makes sense to me.
deliriousgirl in reply to rosepepper’s comment, 3 months ago
Oh Thank You so much, dear! I too understand the fog.

Fantastic… you create the mood here fantastically with the picture & the words… such an excellent piece I really want to read more! & after all that is what writing is all about… drawing one in to the moment & making them feel like they are caught there.
Beautifully haunting piece…. I must return back with more time to see what else you have on here.

Thank you so much! I confess – I always read the stories and poems first! Sometimes forget to look at the pictures altogether.
Glad you like it!

It’s strange because hardly anybody else liked this story, I got a few BMs saying it didn’t really flow and stuff like that, so I rewrote it and put it back up. The photo is sooooo fuckin hot!
Thanks cutiepie, love that new avatar image!

oh, no … i think it’s perfect (but then i can be strange LOL)
[An ending is always a beginning, a beginning an ending, as the serpent swallows his tail.]
wow.
i think there is an aspect of mystery which could be translated or perhaps, felt as confusion to some .. but it sits perfectly with the story. The title is FOG after all xx
