The fastest flying machine ever built by mankind, the Blackbird set several records for highest achieved altitude (~85.000 feet) and speed (~Mach 3.5). She flew from New York to London in 1h55min, but only because she had to refuel in Air, otherwiese she would have been faster.

The American Hangar in Duxford hosts the only SR71 that can be seen outside the US.

Canon 5dMkII and Canon 24-70mm at 70mm, f/2.8 iso 200 three autobracketed images handheld, HDR with Photomatix.

Awesome capture Bernhard, love the POV and DOF ( for some reason it reminds me of Thunderbirds) Great HDR processing, love how it highlights the detail of the rivets on the body. Well done great job, and even more so considering you shot three exposures handheld :)

  • Thank you Jordy for your nice comment. The hardest work was to get rid off all the people gathering around the Blackbird ;-)

Nice shot of this classic aeroplane. I don’t think the true speed of this has been officially recorded (Mach 5). It was one impressive piece of kit. – Ted
