Sitting in the church Gardens of St. James’s Piccadilly you would never know that you are only 2 mines away from Piccadilly Circus and only 5 mins away from Regent and Oxford sts. In front of the church there is always a market going so it is easy to pass by and not realise that they have a fantastic garden with picnic tables and fountains. It is one of Christopher Wren’s churches which surprises most people who think that Wren churches are only in The City and not in the West End. The church is 323 years old and is now in desperate need of restoration work. Damp has severely damaged the roof and the electrics in the building. They are currently trying to raise 3.5 million to carry out the necessary repairs. It makes me angry because there are a lot of rich and famous people who live and work in this area and I think what would it take for all of them to pitch in and save one of Wren’s masterpieces?
