Ruins of the Mall

Ruins of the Mall

Once a very popular shopping mall, Bannister Mall fell victim to changing population and demographic patterns. It could not compete with newer malls in other parts of the city; it became crime-ridden, and gradually it lost tenants. For years, Bannister Mall stood mostly vacant, just barely hanging on. It was recently razed to the ground, and the area now lies in ruins.

In Kansas City, MO.

So desolate and well captured!! so many malls have ended this way, but I also think there is only a certain amount of shopping one can do – wonderful image!!

  • Delany Dean replied

Thanks, Kate! Don’t get me wrong… I am no fan of shopping malls… But this property has been a real problem area for years. I hope something constructive is done, by people who care about providing something positive for those who live nearby.

Hi Delany , we also have many empty spaces like this around the area, I wish they would build something for the younger generation to enjoy, I am sure we had it so much easier 20 years ago!!

  • Delany Dean replied

Definitely, in many ways, we did…

This is sad. Mother nature now waits patiently to reclaim her land, No doubt there will be no help from us humans !

  • Delany Dean replied

It’s amazing how quickly weeds, and even fast-growing trees, take hold. The pavement buckles in almost no time at all.

Well shopping malls killed our high streets in the uk, nice to see they’re killing each other now! Great shot.

  • Delany Dean replied

Thank you; and, yes, I think that shopping malls are a blight on our culture.

Great find! I agree with Niqdaw, the malls put our downtown retailers out of business, so it is refreshing to see it happens to them as well.

  • Delany Dean replied

    Thanks, Brad, and I agree.

Wow – love the moody sky. Reminds me of earth after life is gone!

  • Delany Dean replied

Thanks! That’s exactly the kind of impact that the scene itself had on me… I wanted to convey that in this image.
