Oil on canvas, 1200 × 600mm. My response to the Brisbane floods of January 2011. I live in Fairfield, so was right in the middle of it all. This painting is all about the hard-working hands of everyone- to prepare for the floods, and then to start the long job of putting all to rights. Featured is my distraught neighbour Nettie, whose home was inundated and who has only just moved back in, almost a year later. The Brisbane river winds through the painting, and a storm passes overhead. "Relinquish to the river’ was awarded 3rd prize at the Woollam Waltzing Matilda Art Show 2011.
