I’m not releasing this for sale as a print just yet, because I haven’t photographed the piece properly. If anyone has any tips on positioning the lighting so it doesn’t reflect off the surface, I’d love to see them!

Acrylic on plywood, 300×450mm.

This original is available for sale. Go get it!

You need to diffuse the light. Without the appropriate equipment, it can be hard. When I photograph book covers (they’re part of my collection) I usually put them by a window and stand over them until I get into a position where the light reflection is off the book. It requires daylight though and either a steady hand or a tripod. If anything else comes to mind, I’ll post it. Others may have a better suggestion. Like using tracing paper between the flash and the image …

  • I have a light box that a friend gave me, and I photographed this inside the box with a desk lamp positioned outside it. The fabric on the box is a white cotton sort of textile, and I thought it might diffuse the light enough to avoid the reflection, but I think the surface is just too shiny!! I also don’t use a flash, should I?

Definitely avoid a flash if possible. Maybe if the lightbox is outside in sunlight the diffusion might be enough ?
