Prismacolors!

Nick got me Prismacolour pencils for my birthday today and I’ve been playing with them with… ehhh results.

I just finished this (apologies for the photo, my scanner is working only when it feels like it) and while I’m getting the hang of working with the pencils in some ways, I’m still floundering hopelessly in other ways.

Do you use Prismacolours? Could you spare some tips?

I personally love prismacolours. They have amazing pigment and they’re nicely textured in terms of how they apply on paper.

I’d say just keep experimenting to find your unique style of blending the colours together. I usually use a blending stump to join the colours together, or at least blend the join like between them. Small circular motions are also good.

Ahhh I know what these are now! I used them… and probably still have some left over. They’re really soft, aren’t they? Hopefully I’m talking about the correct ones haha.

I understand these are the best colour pencils (I’ve only used Derwent watercolour pencils in my limited forays with this medium, would love to try these).
Your drawing looks lovely, I think they will bring a great new feel to your work (looking good to me) xxxxx

Try rubbing the art with a cotton ball dipped in mineral spirits – it adds a nice effect!

lol I’ve totally been using the turps blending method with cotton tips!! I like how it smooths things out.

Ah ok, well also try using coldpress illustration board, or best Strathmore 500 smooth plate board and draw a sketch in navy blue or black pencil. Spray workable fixative.. Then rub a ground color of oils into the board (My favourite is burnt sienna)- use a kneadable erasor to get out the highlights, and then work with the prismacolors on top.
