The Power and the Glory by

Massive surf at Gibson’s Beach near Port Campbell, Australia, late afternoon. Unfortunately, there is nothing in the photo to indicate the huge size of the waves – easily 2 metres.

Beautiful ambience Heather. You can tell they are large as the waves at the back still monster those in the foreground. Fantastic capture. Powerful and dynamic. I like the birds in the middle too.

Great image, looks like some birds off in the distance

  • Yes – they are birds on the horizon. I didn’t know they were there until I looked at the RAW file. I nearly cloned them out in case they looked like spots but then I thought I’d leave them there – because they WERE there.

Great composition and lighting. The birds in the distance just make this shot. Your timing was exquisite. Reminds me very much of a painting my father did some years ago.

Very powerful shot Heather, birds in the distance and wind whipping the tops of those waves really add drama. Well done.
