The Kan Tan leaves Geelong
The Kan Tan oil rig, which has been in Geelong for the past couple of months for repairs, left Geelong today. I went down to Point Lonsdale to watch it as it negotiated the treacherous waters of the rip. I wasn’t disappointed! Huge seas, which shook the pier where I was perched with my camera, added some drama to the day.

Winkipop
I went down to Winkipop (near Bell’s Beach) yesterday because I heard about a whale sighting. No whales but massive surf. I just kept shooting away as each set of massive waves rolled in. There were some very accomplished surfers out there who weren’t daunted by the huge swell.
Shot with a Nikon D300 with 80-200mm lens with 1.7x extender.
