This is a digital painting ( NOT a photograph manipulated) done by hand, meaning, it isn’t a vector, those it may look like one, this was created like a vector drawing only I didn’t use the path tool too much, just here and there, I mostly used the lasso tool, much harder. Doing the painting this way, gives it a more ‘painterly’ look, rather than vectored look. I LOVE the bright colors and the sparklely cequenses were a PAIN in the BUTT to do! But I did it :)

This is nature Boy Rick Flair. Back in 1976 or so. When he was 26, he is now 60. For those who don’t know him , he is 16 time world champ of the pro wrestling world. back in the day wrestling was more real. It wasn’t the fights that were real, but the blood, the sweat, and hard work. At times the wrestlers just ‘went with it’ what ever ‘stick’ they came up with , they played off of each other, and developed some of the most funny sticks in the biz in theses days. I was a small child in the 70s back when Ric Flair still looked like this. He was one of my favorite wrestlers. My sister and I use to draw cartoons of our favorite wrestlers when we were kids. We really enjoyed them back then. LOL I have good childhood memories from Flair in those days, so I painted this portrait of him in his honor and because I just LOVED his robes!!

Most fan were and still are quite taken by him, his style and flashy flair made him one the greatest performers to ever enter, The Squared Circle.

The poster I had was him in baby blue trunks. He was turned with his back to you and there was a white lace and embroidered butterfly on his butt. Very pin up looking because his head was turned sideways and looing at you. His arms were raised in the air in a muscle man flex mode. Caused quite a sensation in the office!!!

  • LOL I know he did! he was indeed a sensation in those days.

I must show my ignorance here and say I don’t really know too much about vectors, so I can’t comment on that aspect of your comments about the work. All I see is another great piece of digital painting, like the one of Blackjack Mulligan. There HAS to be a huge market for these as I know Pro Wrestling is huge in the US. Glad you substituted that great background in place of the ring, which is just distracting, in the ref photo. You’re on a roll here PA. Keep it up! XHXHXHX

  • Yes i know there are a lot of old NWA fans out there and i WISH I could sell these , I’m not sure if I can Ric Flair still wrestles and he is VERY hard to get a hold of, still a big star in the ring, BJ may be easyer but he had a stroke and the family takes care of him now, don’t know if I could get a hold of anyone BUT I may be able to talk with a fella named Goerge South who still promotes the old NWA, I may just try that! xoxoxoxoxoxox
