Long ago, in the time before, gruesome ugly monsters roamed the
darkness. Dragons were the keepers of the flame, the holders of the light and tasked with keeping the darkness at bay.

When the light came, the dark things scattered, hiding in the recesses of the shadows that remained. The oldest of Gods, Drasha knew they were there. He created a creature powerful and wise enough to deal with them, dragons.

They watch in the darkness for the loathsome ones, for the foul unclean ones, guarding the night until daylight comes. Dragons light, the night sky to keep the most wretch away.

“Yashera, a voice traveled down on the wind, The time has come for you to take your place as Ward of the Sky.”

Patri, dropped to the ground and continued approaching. Her transition from the air to the ground was so seamless. You couldn’t tell exactly when, she had touched down.

The moon reflected off her scales causing the green to shine back with a golden sheen. “Yes Mother, the young dragon answered back.”

Looking up at the sky as she stretched out her wings. Her yellow eyes, out beamed the moons own brilliance gazing out into the night.

The wind whirled around her like small tornados as the dust and debris danced about her with excited rhythms. Yashera’s wings caught the air and in moments the ground dropped away.

“Do not take your job lightly my child, you are beacon that shows us our way to the light.”

Yashera, answered with dragon’s fire that lit up the night, lighting all the stars at once.

She burst into giggles as the stars twinkled and danced.

Patri shook her head, smiled and then said, “Well, so much for taking it seriously” She broke out into a roar of laughter.

Amused and proud of her offspring the new, Ward of the Sky.
