Thanks to Robert for being a willing model on this sofa we found in an alley.

And to Tracy Wallace who doesn’t know it, but she provided an odd source of inspiration with Clumsy Misfortunes – possibly the best expression of “awkward” that I’ve seen.

The placement of the feet and couch is really interesting, almost like they are clearly in the image (peoples eyes) but they are not…i don’t see homeless people where i live, but i’m guessing they are unfortunately everywhere. You guys are doing a great job without being intrusive.

  • Sara Lamond replied

    Thanks Tracy

As I mentioned in the description of another photo in this series – it’s much easier to ignore the homeless than acknowledge them. I sort of feel that keeping them “faceless” has two effects:
    1. It protects their privacy, and I’ve really been struggling with that.
    2. It’s a comment on how easy it is to ignore them – in this case – to almost keep the person out of the field of vision.

Thank you for this work. You should check out my writing Do Not Feed The Homeless

It is a short introduction on the banning of feeding homeless people across America.

    Wonderful work Sara.

    Thank you Helen!

I did read that writing – shocked the hell out of me. There are many missions in Sydney that go out nightly with little soup kitchens on wheels. Would be awful to think they weren’t allowed to help anymore.

Was that a repost? I thought I read that earlier, but I see now it’s new… sorry my mistake!

The choice of B&W plus the extreme composition makes this an absolute winner! Wonderful shot! Very powerful!
